Looking beyond the beloved city destinations in Vietnam, you can plan an extraordinary experience by taking a glimpse at one of the country’s mystical waterfalls. Vietnam’s world-renowned waterfalls offer some of the most stunning views in Asia.

And because of the unique typography of the country, these waterfalls have an array of natural designs. Some look like a strong rush of water sliding from the soaring elevations of Vietnam, while others have a gentler glide over the terraced plateaus.

For those who are searching too add more natural landmarks to their travel itinerary, our top waterfalls will inspire you to go town-hopping throughout Vietnam. Some of these require a simple hike to reach, and some even offer camping nearby.

Here are among the most fascinating waterfalls in Vietnam, listed in no particular order:

Ban Gioc-Detian Falls

Ban Gioc-Detian Falls in Cao Bang. Photo:

The Ban Gioc – Detian Falls is essentially one waterfall separated by two borders: Vietnam and China. Because of this, it has two names.

Unlike the Bac Waterfalls, the Ban Gioc has a lower elevation. However, in the second half of the year when rain and storm usually pass by the region, it has a stronger water flow. The water drops from 30 meters of height and is surrounded by mountain ranges. In front, there are rice paddies. The waterfalls increase the quality of life for the families nearby. It’s also one of the few waterfalls you can soak in.

Getting to Ban Gioc Waterfalls: Though it’s one of the most fascinating waterfalls in Vietnam, very few travelers make it here. The place is much more secluded than the other falls on this list. Ban Gioc is 90 km east of Cao Bang. Some buses get you from Hoa Binh to Ban Gioc, but the more recommended mode of transport is a motorbike. This way, you get to see all the stunning views this area has to offer (including its traditional bamboo water wheels in the middle of rice paddies).

If you want a more comfortable journey, you can ride two-level sleeper buses from Hanoi’s My Dinh Bus Station. This trip is about 8 hours. From the Cao Bang Station, you will need to ride a motorbike towards Highway QL3, then turn left towards Road DT205. This will then lead you to the town of Trung Khanh.

Though the journey is long, going to Ban Gioc Falls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You get to feel the thunderous sounds of the falls by the time you arrive at the heart of the town, and you get to see the most beautiful landscapes of the town hugged by mountain ranges.

Dambri Falls

130 kilometers from Dalat, the Dambri Waterfalls lie within the beautiful Lâm Đồng Province. The falls have a commanding presence, with its strong currents and echoing sounds.

Legend has it that the Dambri Falls were created from the tears of a woman, Bri. Her lover, Kdam, was part of another hill tribe and they forbade their love. Kdam fled the forest because of deep sadness, and when Bri heard the news, she tried to look for him everywhere. Bri eventually went home, and they heard her cries throughout the hills. She waited for Kdam to come back, but he never did. Bri cried until she died and her body turned into stone. The waterfalls have become Bri’s tears.

Bri’s and Kdam’s love has become a symbol for both tribes. Eventually, the tribes allowed their descendants to marry across their own communities. The Dambri Falls is a symbol of love and harmony to the people of Dalat.

Datanla Falls

Datanla Falls can bring out the kid inside of us. This Da Lat waterfall is more family-friendly than the others on the list. The water is less vigorous and activities for tourists are much more organized in this area.

At the bottom of the falls, there are various things you can do. At the entrance of the area, there are wide parking areas, restaurants and picnic areas for sightseers and families. There are mini roller-coasters, cable cars, and rental shops for rafting, abseiling, and “free jumping.”

Though this looks like a safer waterfall to visit, authorities still warn tourists to not jump over the waterfalls. Between the two vertical cliffs, there’s a deep hole they call the “abyss” that’s over 40 m tall.

Getting to Datanla Waterfalls: If you’re short on time, Datanla Falls is an easier route to follow in Dalat. Rent a motorbike or taxi and pass through Highway 20. Just a few kilometers from Dalat downtown, you can already reach the entrance of the tourist area. If you’re staying in one of the closer hotels, you can also rent a bicycle to get here. Once you arrive, pay the 10,000 dong entrance fee. This does not cover fees for the other activities you can find in the area.

Dray Nur Waterfall

If you’re visiting Buon Ma Thuot, this is the best destination in the region. Dray Nur Falls is a priceless gift of nature. The falls have a romantic and mysterious grace, which appeals to many travelers.

The waterfall is only 30 meters high, but it’s 250 meters long. It’s the largest of the three waterfalls along the Serepok River. Because of its length, it offers a panoramic view of the landscapes. There are three-tiered lakes at the bottom of the falls. You can swim in the first lake because the water is shallow, but second and third lakes are no longer recommended for swimming. The second lake has sharp rocks at the bottom, and the third lake is too deep for casual swimming.

The Dak Lak Province is known for their mythologies and the waterfall is associated with one of its many legends. There’s a neighboring fall along the river called Dray Sap. According to folklore, there was a young couple who were madly in love. One day, they were sitting on top of a big rock when a monster appeared out of the water. The monster drove the man away and took the girl. The man came back to the rock only to find his lover gone. The rocky bank where the waterfall sits has been referred to as the rock where this happened.

Yang Bay Waterfall

Yang Bay Waterfall in Nha Trang. Photo:

Explore the natural wonders of Nha Trang as you make your way to Yang Bay Waterfall. Known as the “Princess of the Mountains,” this fall is tucked in the middle of the forest. The route is trying, but since the waters from the fall flow through the streams that go through the dense forest, tourists get a rewarding feeling as the sounds of the falls grows stronger.

The Yang Bay Falls has a strong flowing water. This gives the area a cooler temperature, even during the summer. You will also see the scenery covered with cold fog and mist.

At the foot of the falls, there’s a vast lake where you can soak. Swimming is also safe since the water is usually so clear you can see the bottom stone plate as you dive in.

Getting to Yang Bay Fall: The trek towards the Yang Bay Waterfalls can be a challenge, but travel to the mountain is easy. It’s minutes away from Nha Trang Central Park, so most taxi drivers know this place. If you’re staying in one of the hotels in the city, you can rent a cab or ride a motorcycle. The location is 45 km away from central Nha Trang.

Bac Waterfalls

Bac Waterfall in Sa pa. Photo:

Experience the splendor of the so-called Silver Waterfalls of Sapa. This site presents the exquisite scenery of Sapa’s peaks.

Bac Waterfalls have been famous because of its unique imagery. From afar, it looks like a silver hair of a goddess falling down the facade of the mountain. The water begins at the reservoir at the top, then falls down the height of over 100 m below. The water then slides down to three tiers of land, so visitors can enjoy different views of the waterfalls throughout the hike.

Getting to Bac Waterfalls: From Sapa’s main downtown, you can ride a taxi or rent a scooter going to the Thac Bac Silver Waterfall. Most motorbikes are rented for the entire day. This will give you unrestricted hours if you’re planning to hike the route towards the top of the waterfalls.

Expect a steep set of stairs. This will continue up to the steel arched bridge, where you can rest and unwind. Others often have a picnic around this area too. This is the middle part of the entire waterfall.

Address: QL4D, San Sả Hồ, Sa Pa, Lào Cai

Thanks for checking out some of Vietnam’s most famous waterfalls. Take your time when soaking in the raw, natural beauty of this amazing countryside.

Top Alpine Coasters In Vietnam

Known for its incredible scenic views, Vietnam is home to a sprawling landscape that is waiting to be explored. While some individuals prefer trekking into the untouched wilderness, others prefer something a bit more developed, like riding an alpine coaster.

Skillfully adapted for the masses and combining the built-in variation of altitude with modern engineering, taking in the country’s raw beauty while going about 40km/h (20 mph) should be at the top of your bucket list. Typically found within an amusement park, the country’s premier alpine coasters are located in the central and southeastern regions.

In no particular order, here are the best alpine coasters in Vietnam:

Datanla New Alpine Coaster – Da Lat

If you’re visiting the temperate city of Da Lat, in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, you’re not going to want to miss the Datanla New Alpine Coaster, a unique alpine attraction that will allow you to take in the area’s beauty at your own pace.

Located right near the Datanla Falls, this alpine coaster offers guests a high-speed ride down Asia’s longest track, which measures 2,400 meters in length. The two-seater coaster features a magnetic braking system that not only maintains a proper distance between cars but also allows you to control the speed of your own descent.

As fun as it is, there are a few requirements for those who would take this ride. There’s a minimum weight of 20 kilograms (approximately 45 pounds) and a maximum weight limit of 120 kilograms (about 264 pounds). Children ages 3 and under, those who are pregnant, have heart problems, or other related medical conditions are not recommended to ride this coaster.

As long as you meet the above criteria, the Datanla New Alpine Coaster is an absolute must-do on a visit to Southern Vietnam’s mountain resort area!

Sun World Ba Na Hills – Da Nang

Bana Hills alpine coaster track. Photo: Sun World Ba Na Hills

Home to the famous Golden Bridge, which is supported by a pair of enormous stone hands, this is a social media user’s paradise. This mountainside complex offers a wealth of attractions, from a picturesque French Village to a giant Buddha statue, all tied together by an immense network of cable cars and funiculars.

Among these attractions are a pair of alpine coaster tracks that at times run parallel to each other. Just as is the case with the Datanla Alpine Coaster, riders can make the descent in their own two-seater car, with control of the brakes for as fast or slow a ride as they feel comfortable with.

One tip to keep in mind if you’re feeling the need for speed: Let the attendant at the top know that you want to go fast so that they release you with enough distance from the car in front of you so that you won’t have to brake. The last thing you’ll want is to get caught in a traffic jam, although, the consolation is gorgeous views of both the park itself and the lush green slopes fading out into the distance.

Getting to Sun World Bana Hills from Da Nang is rather straightforward. The city is 25 kilometers away and the travel time is approximately one hour. If you’re staying in the scenic World Heritage Site town of Hoi An, travel time there and back is substantially longer, so you’ll either want to find cheap transport to Da Nang via a shuttle bus, or a pricier, yet more direct, taxi ride.

Keeping in mind that a visit to Sun World Bana Hills is an all-day affair that is likely to leave you feeling exhausted after a day’s explorations, you’ll want to go with the quickest and simplest method your accommodation arrangements will allow.

Vinpearl Land Nha Trang – Hon Tre Island

Just offshore the beach resort town of Nha Trang, on the southeast coast of Vietnam, lies Hon Tre Island. The biggest attraction, Vinpearl Land Nha Trang, also known as the VinWonders, is festooned with cartoonish castles and lots of attractions.

Ranging from a large water park to classic rides such as a Ferris Wheel and rollercoasters, this half-natural, half-artificial entertainment destination also boasts its own alpine coaster.

The Vinpearl Land Alpine Coaster spans two spiraling tracks and has a total length of 1, 760 meters (5,774 feet), with an altitude differential between stations of 133 meters (436 feet). Riders on this alpine coast will have the option of going in pairs as well as maintaining control of their speed via a braking system.

As mentioned earlier, Vinpeal Land features more than just this coaster. On the property, there’s an enormous water park with a variety of colorful waterslides as well as the largest floating marine park in the world, Splash Bay. The botanical gardens are home to a series of geographical environments, while the aquarium gives guests the chance to get up close and personal with many denizens of the deep.

Getting to Vinpearl Land from Nha Trang is embarrassingly easy. The most convenient is a ride on the 10, 892 foot (3,320 meters) cable car system that will whisk you, and another seven people, across the water and into the park in about ten minutes. If heights aren’t your thing, there are also seven-minute speedboat transfers to get you across the channel.

If you’d like to combine the manufactured fun of Vinpearl Land with the natural beauty of Hon Tre Island, there are multiple on-site resorts that will allow you to extend your stay. If you prefer to visit the park and island in just a day, a multitude of dining establishments, covering all tastes and budgets, will keep you nourished as you ride the coaster and bask in the warmth of Vietnam’s climate and culture.

Plan Your Next Trip

Riding the Sun World Ba Na Hills alpine coaster. Photo: Sun World Ba Na Hills

Whether you’re looking for a new way to take in Vietnam’s beauty, or simply love riding alpine coasters, visiting any one of these sites is sure to put a smile on your face. Racing down the track at up to 40km/h (20pmh) will not only provide you with incredible views of the area but also a rush of excitement as you whiz down the track.
